More information
For more information on brain treatments we suggest that you visit the spine page of the CyberKnife manufacturer's web site. As protocols are developed and extended Accuray Inc update their materials accordingly. You can be sure of finding the latest published information on this area of treatment, though you cannot apply for treatment there.
Treatments use the XSight software package which enables CyberKnife® to use the skull to provide reference markers. This means that brain tumours can be treated without an intrusive head frame having to be screwed into the skull, which other radiosurgery systems require.
In addition the following non-cancer conditions may be treated: Acoustic neuroma (sometimes called vestibular schwannoma or neurilemoma), AVM (arteriovenous malformation or artervascular malformation), Trigeminal neuralgia.
Individual CyberKnife centres may adopt slightly different approaches to which cases they will treat and how they will treat them, including how many treatment sessions are required.
