Lung cancer is a relatively common form of cancer but it should be remembered that whilst CyberKnife® excels at accurate targeting of one or a small number of discrete tumours, it may not be appropriate where the cancer has spread to multiple sites.
For early stage non-small cell lung carcinoma surgery is often the preferred option, but where this is not possible or desirable CyberKnife may help.
CyberKnife centres may vary slightly in their approach but briefly the limitiation may be summarised as Lung metastases (single) and Lung Cancer (Stage I peripheral tumours).

As with treatments for the brain and spine, centres with the additional X-Sight navigational software can treat lung tumours without the need for placement of fiducials first.
For more information on treatments for lung cancer we suggest that you visit the lung cancer page of the CyberKnife manufacturer's web site. As protocols are developed and extended Accuray Inc update their materials accordingly. You can be sure of finding the latest published information on this area of treatment, though you cannot apply for treatment there.
Individual CyberKnife centres may adopt slightly different approaches to which cases they will treat and how they will treat them, including how many treatment sessions are required.
